Teenagers nowadays cannot survive socially without internet. This justifies a study on the factors that help to reduce risk and harm on the internet for teenagers. The World Wide Web (WWW) should be able to bring them together and provide easy access to information. This will hopefully result with a new generation of teenagers having better accessibility in education and knowledge. Unfortunately, this may not be the case. Children are suffering due to dark side of technology throughout the world, especially in the developing countries. Child abuse is increasing through online in Bangladesh slowly but gradually at a steady rate. The study was aimed to identify the demographic factors that are related to online risks and harm among teenagers in Bangladesh. The instrument which was developed to collect data was survey questionnaire. Total 443 teenagersโ€™ data were collected among which 378 respondents were from urban area and the rest from rural area. Survey was administrated in person by going through in each class in every institution. The findings indicated Age and SES (socio-economic status) under Demographic Factors are statistically significantly related to online risks as well as harm among Teenagers in Bangladesh. However, gender was foun

Performance of wireless local area networks in Malaysian institutions

Although Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs) are widely used in many settings little work has been done in studying their impact and benefits. This study provides empirical indicators on the performance of the WLANs implemented on Malaysian Institutions of Higher Learning Our research adopted Demingโ€™s P-D-C-A Model and modified it to Plan-Implement-Control-Evaluate (P-I-C-E) in establishing a performance measurement for a WLAN; hence WLAN Performance Index (WPi). The measurement consists of four key performance indicators (KPi), reflecting the performance of the four P-I-C-E dimensions. These performance indicators provide a guide for the institutions to take the necessary corrective and preventive actions in attaining an effective WLAN system. Benchmarking was conducted by comparing three institutions in identifying the best WLAN system measures. The WPi is then applied to the three Malaysian public institutions of higher learning (MIPTA), which have implemented such WLAN system. The study reveals the WPi of each of the MIPTA being measured, indicating the strength and weaknesses of each institutions. Also, we suggest corrective actions necessary in achieving an effective and efficient WLAN system. Gap analysis was done to the three MIPTAs findings comparative to the benchmarked WLAN system

In the 21st century, education has evolved from being confined to the four walls of a classroom to a more flexible online environment using Cloud Computing (CC) technology which has brought immense technological transformation in the field of education. This technology is rapidly growing and improving the Higher Educational Institutionsโ€™ (HEIs) performance around the world, where learners can access various computer applications from remote locations through the Internet. Previous studies on cloud computing adoption have highlighted various advantages of using this technology in HEIs, mainly in the developed countries. However, in the case of developing countries like Bangladesh, lack of research on identifying factors that might influence cloud computing adoption was observed. Hence, the authors of this paper have proposed a conceptual model that identifies the factors that influence cloud computing adoption for the faculty members and students in Bangladeshi HEIs

Conceptualization of Strategic Information Systems Planning (SISP) success model in public sector: an absorptive capacity approach

The rapid changes in information technology (IT) and business environment have challenged the organizational capabilities in planning the appropriate information systems/information technology (IS/IT) strategies for organizations. With SISP consistently remains as one of the top managerial concerns, there is a need to find ways to improve SISP. Based on this scenario, the role of knowledge and knowledge based processes should be the central focus in SISP. Therefore, some studies have suggested that SISP process should be viewed as a learning process rather than a problem solving process. As a learning process, SISP success can be determined by how much impact the SISP practice has influenced on information system (IS) plannersโ€™ thinking and actions. In this case, knowledge capacity absorbed from SISP experience reflects a certain level of organizational learning (OL) or capability is achieved which later influences the SISP success. However, SISP study from this perspective is lacking. Synthesizing from the literature, this paper proposes a conceptual framework based on absorptive capacity model for an SISP success model in the public sector

Evaluating Strategic Information Systems Planning (SISP) performance among Malaysian government agencies using organizational learningโ€based model

Previous strategic information systems planning (SISP) studies have highlighted that an ideal SISP practice should emphasise on organisational learning (OL) in their SISP approach. Surprisingly, studies focusing on the extent of OL and its contextual factors are lacking. This study aims to develop and validate a model for evaluating SISP performance in the Malaysian government agencies from OL perspective. For this purpose, an SISP performance model was developed based on the absorptive capacity theory where SISP is viewed as a learning process instead of planning process. The theoretical assumption is that the quality of SISP contextual factors will influence the extent of SISP learning which eventually will influence the SISP success. The contextual factors are SISP climate, consultant expertise and CIO capability. Meanwhile, the SISP learning factors comprise of shared ICT/business knowledge and SISP process effectiveness with SISP success as the SISP performance measurement. 706 questionnaires were sent to 234 selected government agencies in Malaysia. Only 27% of the government officers responded to the questionnaire meets the criteria of this study. Measurements were initially validated using SPSS. Subsequent confirmation on the measurements and structural validity were done by adopting the Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) analyses using AMOS. The results of this study demonstrated that the hypothesised SISP performance model adequately fits the sample data which assumed the model is acceptable. Generally, the findings of this study indicated that higher level of SISP climate, consultant expertise and CIO capability positively influence the extent of SISP learning factors and later influence the SISP success. In determining the SISP success, this study revealed that it is crucial for the Malaysian government agencies to identify appropriate SISP team members based on their knowledge, skill and attitude to promote conducive SISP learning climate for effective SISP decision making

Further to that, we sought in-depth insights from seven senior executive managements in service provider firms on the skill sets requirements of fresh IT graduates to fulfill the market needs of IT outsourcing in Malaysia. The four-member research team found that technical, soft and problem-solving skills are the main concerns raised by the key informants. This is in line with the literature review and also the present higher education policy concerns by the Malaysia government

Malaysia IT outsourcing (ITO) practices have been around after the Kodak effect but was not widely publicized until massive public sector computerization projects and automation of financial systems after Asian financial crisis in 1997. Thus, many service providers, including world-class firms, providing ITO business models can be found in operating in Malaysia. ITO models evolve from traditional to innovation phase in 2010 onwards. One of the innovative models in Malaysia is the global offshore service delivery model which is based on four pillars, namely: Experienced Leadership; Global Best Practice; Human Capital; Domain Knowledge. To be able to compete globally, Malaysia has equipped its companies with higher capabilities and competencies via international certifications and continuous skills developments. Several advantages proposed by Malaysia include: economic stability, political stability, multi-lingual, world-class infrastructure, affordable lifestyle, value propositions and many others. In this paper, we present the detailed views of a senior executive management on two open-ended in-depth interviews and one CEO roundtable discussion
